Plumbspec completed the plumbing and drainage work for two large conference centres in the Wellington region. These were substantial commercial projects, with one building containing 118 sanitary fittings and the other containing 73.

Conference centres can have hundreds of people using their bathrooms, kitchens, and shared facilities within a short period. The plumbing and drainage therefore needed to handle high demand without causing slow drainage, pressure issues, or interruptions during busy events.

Our work involved installing the main plumbing and heavy-duty drainage pipework throughout both buildings. Each toilet, basin, sink, floor waste, and other sanitary fixture needed the correct water supply and waste connection, with the wider system planned to cope with the number of people using the facilities.

The scale of the work meant careful coordination was important. Pipe routes had to fit around structural elements, electrical services, ventilation, ceilings, and other parts of the construction. Our team worked alongside the builders and other contractors to keep the installation moving and avoid service clashes onsite.

Quality also needed to remain consistent across every part of both buildings. With 191 sanitary fittings in total, small errors could quickly become larger problems during testing or once the centres opened.

Once the pipework and fixtures were installed, the systems were checked to make sure water supply, drainage, and individual connections were operating correctly. Both contracts were completed successfully and handed over to a high standard.
